A home smart lock can be installed on a 40mm~100mm door , less than 40mm can’t install home smart lock , while more than 100mm , also need custom made the lock . 

If install new smart lock on old door exist lock , need choose the lock can cover the existed lock screw place , or else the lock can’t install except change new door . 

Determine the direction of the door

After determining if the door can install a new smart lock ,you need to confirm the door direction .  

Standing outside as the standard –

If the door fixed hinges on the left, then the smart door lock is defined as the left handle, and is divided into the left inside and left outside open.

If the door’s fixed hinge is on the right, then the smart door lock is defined as a right handle, which is divided into a right inner opening and a right outer opening.

Measure the door lock guide plate

Before installing a smart lock, you need to measure in advance the door lock guide plate size, which is the piece of metal strip sandwiched between the front and rear door panels. This size will depend on which kind of mortise lock we choose . 

Determine whether there is a hook on the door 

If the door does not have a hook, a smart lock with a hook will not be easy to install , while the door has a hook, but if you buy a smart lock without a hook, the hook on the door will fail to install .

How to determine whether the door has a hook at home?

The method is: the door in unlock status, deadbolt the lock and open it, check if there is lock tongue pop out ,with this lock tongue pop out means the lock with hook , or else without .  

Double doors need two smart locks

Most of the doors in the homes for entry gates are two side doors , this kind of door needs to install two pcs smart locks . 

You can choose one side door to install a pcs complete smart lock , another side door install a pcs smart lock without mortise lock and electronic parts in it . To keep symmetry and beauty , we advise installing two same smart locks .

Biometric Identification 

Biometric identification is the close combination of computer and optics, acoustics, biosensors and biometric principles and other high-tech means, using the inherent physiological characteristics of the human body to carry out the identification of personal identity. It mainly refers to the way of human biometric identification. At present, the biometric function of smart lock is mainly based on fingerprint, face and finger vein.

Password Recognition

The smart lock password mainly reflects its security performance from two aspects.

1. The length and strength of the password

Smart door locks are generally six or more passwords, when the password is entered incorrectly a certain number of times will lock the lock system to prevent multiple cracking.

2. Password protection

For example, the virtual password and password theft, it is currently recommended that you enter the length of the virtual password should not exceed 50 times, and the main home smart locks in the market are in the 32-bit length, within the security boundary, so the smart lock password function is safe.

Password identification functions need to focus on the number of bits, the number of password bits and dummy password number bits determine the complexity of the smart lock password.

Swipe Card Recognition

Swipe card recognition is the closest to the keyless door unlocking method when the early fingerprint recognition is not popular, mainly using radio frequency identification technology, which can identify specific targets reading and writing relevant data through electrical signals. At present, the mainstream swipe card method is M1, M2 card, that is, encryption Mifare 1 card and CPU card.

Network Identification 

Network identification function is based on cell phone and computer interaction with locks, with networking function of the home smart lock will generally have a WIFI chip, they no need gateway, you can achieve network unlocking, networking authorization, matched with smart home and other scenarios.

Network identification function requires attention to two indicators: convenience of use, that is, the ease of management applications; the second is security of identification, because it is easy to intercept information by hackers during network transmission; networked smart locks need to have a strong information encryption system to protect information from being leaked.

Nowadays, the appearance of home smart lock main have three types: the handle type (semi-automatic) type, push-pull type, and the rear clutch fully automatic type.

Handle Type Smart Lock

Different from the handle type smart lock, push-pull smart lock is directly controlled by the internal motor latch expansion, while the main role of the push handle is the expansion of the small latch. Due to its structure, and can not be directly driven by the force of the person opening the door latch, but for consumers, push-pull smart lock has a high value, opening the door in a novel way, and other features, is also a relatively popular style.

Rear Clutch Fully Automatic Smart Lock

Rear clutch fully automatic, which is an emerging product type in recent years, mainly refers to the clutch is placed in the rear panel, through fully automatic means, the implementation of the lock to open and lock the state, the benefit is enhanced security, prevented by violent disassembly, even if the front panel is completely destroyed, can not open the door. The rear clutch appeared relatively late, not all manufacturers are able to produce smart locks with rear clutch mechanism.

How To Open The Door Without Electricity

Smart locks out of power how to open the door, smart locks generally have extra usb ports that can be charged from the power bank. At the bottom front panel of the smart lock with a USB power supply hole can be used to open the door through the rechargeable battery function for emergency power supply.

Smart locks all come with an emergency mechanical key,in case your smart lock out of power can not open the door, then you need to open the door through the emergency mechanical key. We advise that you put the emergency key in the office, car etc. 

How To Replace Battery 

The principle of the smart lock is basically the same, when the low voltage, the smart door will produce low voltage alarm prompts, such as “beep, beep, beep” to the alarm to replace the new battery in a timely manner. Installation of batteries needs to know the location of the battery, generally these places to put the battery: the rear panel, mortise lock, centralized power supply.

When it comes to the maintenance of smart locks, many people’s first thought must be the panel and sensor regularly clean, lock handle can’t hang heavy objects, the battery should be replaced in a timely manner ……Most people are not aware of the fact that the maintenance of the smart lock body is also very important can’t reduce .

Mortise Lock Maintenance 

1.When closing the door you’d better hold the handle, the latch is rotated into the mortise lock, close the door and then release, do not hit the door, otherwise it will reduce the service life of the lock.

2.Often check the mortise lock and locking plate with the clearance, latch and locking plate hole with the appropriate height, door and door frame with the best clearance of 1.5mm-2.5mm. If you find a change, you should adjust the door hinge or locking plate position. But also pay attention to the different climate that is caused by cold shrinkage and thermal expansion, to ensure that the door and door frame, lock body and latch plate clearance with reasonableness, thus to protect the normal use of smart lock locks.

3.When the main latch or isquare latch is out of the door body, do not hit hard to avoid damage to the latch and the door frame.

4.Because the door body and the door frame between the seal installed elastic effect, so when the lock is tight, you can open the door while pushing the door or pull the door by hand to overcome the elasticity, do not strongly turn the handle, so as not to cause damage to the handle.

5.Regardless whether there is someone at home, the deadbolt door must be locked, so as to play a real role in the smart lock to protect our property and life safety.

6. Often the lock transmission parts have lubricant to keep its transmission smooth and extend the service life. It is recommended to check once every six months or once a year, and check whether the fastening screws are loose to ensure tightness.

7. Lock cylinder can’t  be in rain and water, because there are small springs inside which will rust failure inflexibly.

8. New lock cylinder in the use of spare keys for up to 2-3 months, there will be a smooth plugging and unplugging, which is a normal phenomenon, not the mortise lock and cylinder lock problems. When there is such a situation, the first time in the keyhole to add graphite powder or pencil powder can play a lubricating effect. But remember not to add any oil substances, because it will make the grease stick to the spring as a result of the lock can not turn the situation.
